Ian has been a major pioneer of Mind-Body Medicine and has helped popularise meditation in the Western world. Author of 7 international bestselling books, Ian speaks around the globe on stress management, emotional and mental health, mind training techniques, resilience and peak performance. He also speaks on how to transform adversity, as well as overcoming disability and major illness. He is known for his clarity, insight, communication skills and sense of humour.

Ian is the co-founder and Creative Director of Allevi8, dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing for those affected by significant physical or mental challenges through evidence based, digital health solutions based upon mindfulness and meditation.

Ian established the world’s first self-help, lifestyle based support groups for people affected by cancer and MS. He convened Australia’s first Mind-Body Medicine conference – Mind, Immunity and Health, and played an active role in establishing Meditation Australia – the peak body for meditation teachers. Ian has taught meditation since 1981 and has taught meditation teachers and group facilitators since 1988. More recently Ian had a key role in the development of a first for Universities in Australia - a Centre for Contemplative Studies at the University of Melbourne and the Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies at Monash. Ian serves on the advisory boards to both Centres.

Ian holds a degree in Veterinary Science and a Masters in Counselling and Human Services. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1988 in recognition of his services to the community.
